#1589 Wordle Answer and Hints for 2025-10-25 - GAUGE

Date: 2025-10-25

Hi! I'm a Wordle fan from China. Here's my Wordle strategy for 2025/10/25. I like to open with SHOUT and ALIKE - together they cover all five vowels and several useful consonants.

A
L
I
K
E
S
H
O
U
T

Excellent start! From ALIKE I learn that A and E are in the word, with E correctly positioned at the end (green). From SHOUT I get U in the word but not in position 4. So I have A, E, and U to work with - three vowels suggesting a vowel-heavy word.

A
L
I
K
E
S
H
O
U
T
L
A
U
G
H

Since I knew from the previous step that A wasn't in the first position and this word has so many vowels, I guessed the pattern might be _AU_E. To test the AU combination, I tried LAUGH, which could also give me more information about consonant letters. This is fantastic - A locks in position 2, U locks in position 3, and G locks in position 4. Combined with E at the end from earlier, I now have the pattern _AUGE!

A
L
I
K
E
S
H
O
U
T

A
U
G
H
G
A
U
G
E

With the _AUGE pattern already confirmed, I try GAUGE. This perfectly places G at the start to complete the word.

Answer found: GAUGE - solved in 4 guesses! GAUGE means to measure or assess something, or it can refer to an instrument for measurement. The key breakthrough was using LAUGH to lock in three consecutive letters (A, U, G) in their correct positions, which made the solution almost immediate.
